Jewelry has been added into the Self Edge line of garments. Expect it to rival the best hand made jewelry available. It is made in the Southwest United States by the top silversmiths out there and for this first collection they’ve produced rings, bracelets, and pendents all made of pure 925 silver and some with 12 carat gold accents. In conventional jean production the excess fabric from the cutting room is discarded, Sugar Cane has taken this fabric and macerated it and spun it back into yarn which is then used to produce the denim. The recycled yarn is used as the weft (fill) thread while the warp is unused pure indigo dyed 50/50 (sugarcane/cotton) blend yarn, resulting in 13.75oz Selvedge Unsanforized Denim. These Straight Leg Fit Jeans are extremely limited in production and only available at Self Edge outside of Japan.
One of my personal Heavy Duty denim companies from Japan is Iron Heart. For their 5th year Anniversary celebration, they are coming with a special IH-634SR jean. Per Kiya of Self Edge, it will actually feature unsanforized 22oz denim and once washed, it bulks up to 24oz, making it the world’s heaviest denim right now. In comparison to the regular 634S, these have more character and will age in a very intense way with lots of contrast and variations. It isn’t pliable like IH’s regular selvedge denim, it’s extremely rigid. It will release in late May with only 500 pairs available at Iron Heart UK and Self Edge.
Style Forum, a website dedicated to all things stylish and refined celebrates with San Francisco’s Self Edge this Saturday night from 7pm to 10pm. Special guest, Paul d’Orleans is ‘The Vintagent’, writing about Everything Old Motorcycle on his popular website: thevintagent. His work has been published from Maximum Rock ‘n Roll to Metropolitan Home, and he’s not-so-secretly a Style Forum fashion hound. Locally brewed beer will be provided by Self Edge and they are encouraging anybody with a motorcycle or moped to come for some showing off.
