For Iron Heart’s 5th anniversary, they went bold, really bold.   The chose of denim is unsanforized, which is a first for Iron Heart, and is so heavy and rigid it starts out as a rigid 21oz denim, once soaked the true indigo color really comes out and the post-soak weight of the denim becomes approximately 23.5oz, easily the heaviest fabric they’ve done.    For those that always wanted a pair of Iron Heart jeans and wanted them to fade a bit quicker and have a more intense contrasty fade, this is the jean you’ve been waiting for.  These are limited to 400 pairs worldwide.  These will go on sale at 10AM (PST) on Thursday, June 18th at Self Edge.  Full look after the jump!

Part of a two-year overhaul by Gap creative director Patrick Robinson, Gap has relaunched 1969, its “premium” denim line.  It is a move towards what denim enthusiats are looking for a simple five-pocket pair without unecessary logos and higher quality denim.   Using a medium-weight raw denim with white selvage, they are coming with slimmer cuts like this “Skinny” version.  Priced at a shocking retail price of less than $60 and available this August at gap.com via Men’s Style | FreshnessMag

One of my personal Heavy Duty denim companies from Japan is Iron Heart.  For their 5th year Anniversary celebration, they are coming with a special IH-634SR jean.  Per Kiya of Self Edge, it will actually feature unsanforized 22oz denim and once washed, it bulks up to 24oz, making it the world’s heaviest denim right now.  In comparison to the regular 634S, these have more character and will age in a very intense way with lots of contrast and variations.  It isn’t pliable like IH’s regular selvedge denim, it’s extremely rigid.  It will release in late May with only 500 pairs available at Iron Heart UK and Self Edge.

Tellason is a new denim company that will make you reconsider going overseas for quality denim jeans.   The denim is sourced from Greensboro, North Carolina at Cone Mills and the first release is a limited edition run of 13.5oz raw selvage jeans that are cut and sewn here in, San Francisco, CA.
