Bay Area art purveyors Upper Playground and Fecal Face have gotten together to offer art lovers the trip of a lifetime to San Francisco.  One lucky winner and their guest will have the chance to visit San Francisco, have dinner with artist Jeremy Fish and get a personal tour of the city with the founders of Fecal Face - all while staying at Upper Playground’s FIFTY24SF Artist Studios.   Details of the trip include:

•    Round trip to SFO for winner +1;
•    5 night stay at Upper Playground’s FIFTY24SF Artist Studios;
•    Dinner and a historic Barbary Coast mini tour with Jeremy Fish;
•    Meet artist Mel Kadel at her show opening on 9.10 at Fecal Face’s Dot Gallery;

This video was entered into the SLAP x Adidas x FTC 7×7 video contest featuring FTC SF / FTC SAC, 35 North / Sasquatch, HUF SF and Skateworks. The 7×7 video contest took place on Sunday June 21st (National Go Skateboarding Day) in San Francisco. Each team consisted of 5 members and were asked to recreate iconic photos from Slap Magazine’s history.

Issue 102 of Juxtapoz Magazine, the Brazil Issue, reviews the contemporary art scene in Brazil.  To celebrate its 10th Anniversary, and to coincide with Juxtapoz’s Brazil Issue, Upper Playground is giving away a paid trip to São Paulo, Brazil.  The trip includes:
•    Round trip plane tickets for two to São Paulo, Brazil;

Ricky Powell. Really, what is there to be said about this legendary photographer that hasn’t already been noted? His shots of New York in the 80s are timeless. His photo subjects ranged from friends on the block; to up-and-coming musicians, artists, and celebrities; to the then high-and mighty caught around NYC. Indeed, Ricky has covered it all. Now, for the first time available to the public for free, Walrus TV provides a nine minute video from Dithers featuring the man, himself, discussing things from back in the day as well as giving insight on some of his favorite shots.

As seen in the interview, Ricky Powell loves animals, especially his cat Blackberry and he’s the founder of the well-established and long-standing “Animal Lover Posse.”  In the fourth contest slated for 2009, Upper Playground is giving away a Ricky Powell photo of RUN DMC in Paris from 1987.  The photo is signed by Ricky Powell, is framed and measures at 3 feet by 2 feet.  To enter, all you have to do is submit a photo of an animal on the Upper Playground Facebook Fan Page – it can be anything – your pet, a pigeon on the sidewalk, a rat on the street – whatever.  The person who submits the best animal photo will win the photo of Run DMC in Paris/1987. To commemorate the completion of the 4-in-1 Robot Paper Toy Project seen in Giant Robot magazine, Scion and Giant Robot are challenging readers to design their own paper figures for a chance to meet the master of paper figures himself and have their paper toy template distributed at the Paper Art Show in April in Los Angeles!
