WHO:
The T-Shirt Has a Voice Project
San Francisco high school students voice their opinions and design t-shirts in collaboration with FTC and TRUE (skate and streetwear brands).
WHAT:
The ‘T-Shirt Has a Voice Project’ is a USF Upward Bound class that gives high school youth an outlet to design their own t-shirt, utilizing their voice, opinions, and influences on a blank canvas.
For the past five months, 7 young designers came together, learned the history of the t-shirt, concept development, software design tools, presentation skills, and marketing strategies. The youth collaborated with FTC and TRUE, San Francisco to bring their designs to the masses.
This Saturday, May 23, 2009, the high school students will be presenting their work to the public at TRUE and FTC. Class instructor, Stephanie Wong, and Upward Bound Director, Janice Dirden-Cook, will recap the project, award the students, and officially announce the t-shirt launch.

To celebrate it’s 10th Anniversary, Upper Playground has teamed up with several artists to create vinyl figures commemorating the event. The Walrus Rider is available in two colors: Teal and black. The teal / magenta figure is being produced in an edition of 500 pieces. A second colorway of black/green is an Upper Playground exclusive and is being produced in an edition of 113 pieces.
